The Original Penn Station
It’s hard to believe any sane human thought a sterile, poorly rendered cylinder was “progress”

The old Penn looks gorgeous. It’s pretty awful now.

Imagine stepping off a train, fresh into New York City for the first time in your life, and walking into a station like this, one that soared to the sky, resonated with the work of hundreds of artisans, and made you feel as tiny and awed as you ever have.  You KNEW you were in New York when you stepped into the old Penn Station.
Contrast it with what we have now: stepping off a train into a warren of sterile tunnels like a rat seeking daylight.
