Open Letter to Web Show Creators
The blip.tv LA Housewarming party last night was an absolutely incredible time and I am so thankful to all who were able to come and share that with us. I had a giant grin on my face the entire night, and I couldn’t shake it. I didn’t want to.
While the overwhelming sense of joy i carried throughout the night was partly due to the celebration blip.tv’s expansion to the west coast, it was mostly due to the pride I felt to have 400-plus people I consider part of the blip.tv family. Sure, there were only 8 blip.tv employees there (which is the most we’ve ever had in one place outside of New York), but the number of people getting checks from blip.tv far outnumbered the handful of us on stage. We wouldn’t be able to celebrate the way we did last night if it wasn’t for you.
In the space between the Kogi truck, the bars, the DJ and the squeaky-clean walls of the new office space, there was a representation of web show creators who have been making shows for the last 5 years. All told, the people populating the courtyard of Bergamot Station had a collective audience somewhere in the range of 20-30MM viewers. Probably more. That’s incredible. And it is all due to the fact that you have all been following your passion to create quality television.
Together, we are removing the obstacles that will change an industry. There is nothing stopping us! So, from the bottom of my heart, I say, ‘Thank You’. Please continue to stay passionate about what you are doing, and I hope 5 years from now when we celebrate a decade of independent television, I will be there to raise a glass with you once again.
Warm Regards,
Rafi Mamalian
