The future of television comes down to one thing: a battle for space on the home page. Getting the audience to bookmark your show, your channel, your app. This battle will be fought with marketing and won by the quality of the content. Game on.
Just like the future of the Internet came down to who got listed in the Yahoo! directory. Please.
This is TV beginning to open up. Yes, CNN, TBS and countless other gatekeepers are present here. But they aren’t the only options. For the first time, I can choose to watch imageoscillite, instead. There’s no artificial barrier to it being more popular or more relevant than CNBC or anything else shown here. This is an important next step for video producers and the first big step for video curators.
Marketing will always matter and quality is paramount, but all filters will quickly slide away from the publisher and toward the viewer.
